Spain maintained an unbeaten streak of 14 matches. Portugal triumphed over Croatia 2-1 in Toronto, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring his first-ever World Cup knockout goal from the penalty spot.

Goncalo Ramos scored a late header to secure the win after Croatia initially took the lead through Ivan Perisic. Switzerland, coached by Murat Yakin, comfortably defeated Algeria 2-0, with Breel Embolo scoring the opening goal and doubling the lead shortly after halftime.

This marks Switzerland's third consecutive World Cup win, advancing them to the knockout stage for the first time in their history.
