Obasanjo's Tinubu Insignia Sparks Political Speculation

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo made a rare public appearance wearing a full agbada featuring Bola Tinubu's insignia, drawing significant attention on social media. Their historical rivalry dates back to Obasanjo's presidency and Tinubu's tenure as Lagos State Governor.

Despite a previous meeting where Obasanjo declined to support Tinubu's presidential bid in favor of Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, the two leaders met again in Ogun State, marking their fourth encounter since the 2023 elections. Obasanjo has openly criticized Tinubu's administration, particularly in a keynote address at Yale University in November 2024, where he lamented Nigeria's deteriorating conditions.

The recent meeting included Tinubu praising Obasanjo for his commitment to good governance. Additionally, Iyabo Obasanjo, Olusegun's daughter, has declared her intention to run for governor of Ogun State, joining the APC and participating in the party's registration exercise.

Analysts note that her familial connections and political experience may pose a challenge for securing the APC ticket.
