Cristian Romero, the captain of Spurs, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury he sustained during a 1-0 defeat while playing for Argentina. Romero, aged 27, limped off the field following a collision with goalkeeper Antonin Kinski during a Premier League fixture at Stadium Light on Sunday.

Concerns have arisen that the injury may be serious enough to prevent him from participating in the final six games of the season as Spurs battle to avoid relegation. Medical tests have indicated that Romero is expected to miss approximately eight weeks due to a high-grade partial tear of the medial cruciate ligament.

His absence is a significant setback for newly appointed head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who emphasized Romero's importance as a "good player" and "crucial player" for the team, which currently sits in 18th place in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone.
