SSANU Demands Salary Arrears Payment from FG in 14 Days

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has given the federal government a 14-day ultimatum to address outstanding salary arrears owed to its members. Mohammed Ibrahim, the national president of SSANU, made this announcement in a communique following the union’s 56th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, from September 30 to October 1.
The NEC meeting focused on staff welfare, university funding, and the implementation of the 2026 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)/SSANU agreement. SSANU demands the immediate payment of arrears related to the 2026 FGN/SSANU CONTTA salary structure, effective from January 1, 2026.
The union also seeks the payment of two months' salaries withheld after the 2022 industrial action and additional arrears from previous salary increases. Ibrahim emphasized that these payments are legitimate entitlements and that delays have worsened financial difficulties for members.
The union's response to the federal government's actions within the 14-day period will determine if they proceed with industrial action.
