At the third edition of Stanbic IBTC Holdings’ Sustainable Finance Summit in Lagos, stakeholders from finance, government, industry, and academia emphasized the need for mobilizing domestic capital and developing bankable green projects to facilitate Nigeria's equitable climate transition. The summit, themed ‘Financing a Just Transition: Mobilising Capital for People, Policy and Prosperity,’ featured Chuma Nwokocha, Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, who highlighted the importance of moving from dialogue to action in sustainable finance.
Professor Bongo Adi from Lagos Business School stated that economic growth and climate action must be integrated, with sustainable finance playing a crucial role in creating green jobs and fostering shared prosperity. Mallam Ibrahim Shelleng, Special Adviser to the President on Climate Finance, noted that Nigeria has established necessary frameworks, including the Climate Change Act and the Energy Transition Plan, to support this transition.
