Stakeholders Call for Agroecology Investment in Nigeria

Stakeholders in Nigeria's agricultural sector, including representatives from YouthHubAfrica and ActionAid Nigeria, convened in Abuja to address the challenges faced by young and women farmers. Peter Ogah lamented that young people venturing into farming struggle to recover even half of their investment due to high production costs.

The dialogue emphasized that inadequate funding is a major obstacle preventing full engagement of youth in agriculture. Maryam Ndayako, the Minister of Youth Development, stated that young people constitute a significant proportion of Nigeria's population and are critical drivers of agricultural transformation, food security, and climate resilience.

She assured that the ministry remains committed to equipping young people with relevant skills and improving their access to resources and markets. The stakeholders called for collaboration among all actors within the agricultural system to provide necessary funding and support to drive change and impact sustainable agricultural practices.
