FG and FAO Collaborate to Empower Youth in Agriculture

The Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Stella Oduem, the Minister of Youth Development, and Dr. Maryam Keshinro, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, is strengthening its partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to unlock the potential of Nigerian youth in agriculture.

During a meeting in Abuja, Dr. Keshinro emphasized that Nigerian youth, who make up approximately 70% of the population, are a significant demographic advantage for economic growth.

Despite the country's vast arable land and large youth population, many young Nigerians remain underutilized in the agricultural sector. The partnership aims to bridge the skills gap in the labor market, particularly in agricultural technical knowledge and practices.

Mr. Tofiq Braimah, a program officer at FAO Nigeria, noted that the initiative seeks to engage youth as active contributors to national development, highlighting the importance of investing in agriculture for sustainable food systems and job creation.
