Stand For Humanity Foundation Wins Conviction for Child Assault

The Stand For Humanity Foundation successfully secured the conviction of Mrs. Rose Okon, who was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Owerri, Imo State, for assaulting her 14-year-old niece, Favour Emmanuel. Okon pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing grievous harm during the court proceedings held on Friday.

The incident occurred on September 19 at Umuneke in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, where Okon allegedly poured hot water on the victim's head and body, leading to visible injuries. The court received photographs of the injuries and statements from the victim, the defendant, and representatives of the Stand For Humanity Foundation.

Chief Magistrate C. J. Nkwoada found Okon guilty and imposed a six-month prison sentence, with an option of a ₦50,000 fine.

Chidiebube Okeoma, President of the foundation, stated that the ruling serves as a warning against violence towards children and reaffirmed the foundation's commitment to protecting vulnerable children and advocating for justice.
