Expert Urges Tinubu to Reform State Police Bill

Dr. Charl Omol, a security policy expert, advised President Bola Tinubu during a discussion on the State Police Bill, emphasizing the necessity for deeper security reforms in Nigeria.

He commended the President for introducing the bill but urged him to assemble a technical team to engage in robust discussions regarding the complexities surrounding the legislation. Omol stressed that the state police system should not only react to crime but also adopt a proactive approach to enhance security outcomes.

He suggested that state police plans should be developed to identify and address the top five crimes in each state, allowing governors to direct strategies without interfering with the operations of the Commissioner of Police. Omol's recommendations included establishing a structure for state police plans to facilitate seamless collaboration with federal police, ultimately aiming to improve crime management at the state level.
