Adeyanju Urges Stricter Anti-Terrorism Measures in Nigeria

Nigerian activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called on the federal government to cease its leniency towards terrorism and adopt a stricter approach to combat the issue. In a post made on Thursday, Adeyanju argued that individuals involved in terrorism and those who sympathize with terrorists should face the death penalty rather than being granted forgiveness.

He criticized the government's current stance, warning that such leniency undermines efforts to combat insecurity in the country. Adeyanju's comments coincide with ongoing military operations against terrorist groups, particularly in Northern Nigeria, where there has been a resurgence of attacks.

These operations were discussed in a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, attended by senior military officials, including Minister of Defence Christoph Musa, who provided updates on the security situation. Reports indicate that terrorist activities, particularly by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have intensified in the northeastern region of Nigeria.
