Celebrations in Iran Follow Reports of Khamenei's Death

Following the circulation of unconfirmed reports regarding the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, street celebrations erupted in Iran, particularly in Tehran. The celebrations began shortly after 11 PM, with residents cheering, clapping, and playing music, as well as honking car horns.

Videos shared on social media showed people stepping onto balconies and open windows to applaud and celebrate, with fireworks also reported. This reaction comes in the wake of a week marked by heightened tensions in the country, following a deadly crackdown on mass anti-government protests that began in December and escalated in January.

These protests were triggered by worsening economic conditions and sanctions affecting the country, posing significant challenges to Iran's leadership. The government's violent response to the protests reportedly left thousands dead, and the current atmosphere reflects ongoing grievances against the regime.
