Ribadu Challenges El-Rufai on Toxic Chemical Allegations

Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, has formally challenged former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to submit evidence regarding allegations of the procurement of toxic chemicals, specifically thallium sulfate, which is known to be dangerous and can cause death in small amounts. In a letter dated January 30, 2026, El-Rufai claimed that 10 kilograms of the chemical were sourced from a supplier in Poland.

The National Security Adviser’s office responded on February 13, 2026, denying any involvement in the purchase or procurement process of the chemical, stating that there are no plans to acquire such substances. Ribadu invited anyone with information regarding the allegations, including El-Rufai, to provide evidence to facilitate a proper investigation by the Department of State Services.

Attempts to deliver the letter to El-Rufai's residence in Abuja were reportedly unsuccessful, as security officials refused to accept it, citing the unavailability of the former governor at the time.
