FG Sets 300,000MT Sugar Production Target by 2030

The Nigerian government, represented by Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, has set a target for Flour Mill Nigeria PLC to increase its annual sugar production capacity to 300,000 metric tons by the year 2030. This directive was issued during a visit to the Golden Sugar Company (GSC) complex in Sunti, Niger State, where Enoh was accompanied by Kamar Bakrin, the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).

The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive to enhance Nigeria's self-sufficiency in sugar production, as the country currently faces a shortfall of 1.8 million metric tons against an annual consumption of 1.8 million metric tons. The GSC is expected to contribute significantly to this target, with plans to scale production from 20,000 metric tons to 290,000 metric tons by 2030.

Enoh emphasized the government's commitment to supporting industrialists through fiscal incentives and other means to achieve these goals.
