FG Directs Dangote to Achieve 600,000MT Sugar Output by 2030

The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed the Dangote Group to scale its sugar production to 600,000 metric tons annually by the year 2030. This directive was issued by the Minister of State for Industry, John Owan Enoh, during a visit to the Dangote Sugar Refinery complex in Numan, Adamawa State, where he was accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council, Kamar Bakrin.

The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in sugar production and reduce the country's reliance on sugar imports. Minister Enoh highlighted the critical role of Dangote Sugar in bridging the gap between local production and Nigeria's annual sugar consumption, which is estimated at 1.8 million metric tons.

He noted that the target of 600,000 metric tons is to be delivered by 2031 and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to achieve the goals outlined in Nigeria's Sugar Master Plan. Olakunle Alak, representing the Dangote Group, reaffirmed the company's commitment to meeting this target.
