Sultanate Council Calls for Moon Sighting on July 14, 2026

The Sultanate Council has called upon Muslims across Nigeria to observe the crescent moon of Safar 1448AH on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, which corresponds to the 29th day of Muharram 1448AH. This appeal was made in a statement issued on Monday and signed by Prof.

Sambo Wali Junaidu, the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council. The statement requested that Muslims begin looking for the new moon on the specified date and report any sightings to the nearest district or village head, who will then communicate the findings to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

The council stressed the religious obligation of moon sighting to determine the commencement of the new Islamic month and prayed for divine guidance in fulfilling this religious duty.
