Oliseh Declares Keshi Nigeria's First Football Superstar

Sunday Oliseh, a former Super Eagles midfielder, has named the late Stephen Keshi as Nigeria's first real football superstar. Oliseh commended Keshi for his leadership and significant impact both on and off the field.

Keshi's illustrious playing career included stints with clubs such as ACB, Stade d'Abidjan, Lokeren, Anderlecht, and Strasbourg. He became the first Nigerian footballer to participate in a major UEFA club competition final, playing the entire match in the 1990 European Cup Winners' Cup, where Gianluca Vialli's Sampdoria triumphed over Anderlecht 2-0.

Keshi was also a member of the Super Eagles team that reached the Africa Cup of Nations finals in 1984 and 1988 and was part of the victorious 1994 squad, although he did not play in the final. Oliseh emphasized Keshi's exemplary qualities, stating that he set a standard for all who wore the green shirt, highlighting his discipline and winning mentality.
