Chukwu, who passed away in April 2025, was a pivotal figure in Nigerian football, leading the national team to its inaugural Africa Cup of Nations victory in 1980.

His playing career was marked by significant contributions, including coaching roles with the Golden Eaglets and Super Eagles. He played a crucial role in the Rangers team that secured the African Cup Winners' Cup in 1977 against the Cameroonian side Canon Yaoundé.
