Supercomputer Updates Premier League Title Predictions

Following the opening matches of the 2026/27 Premier League season, Opta's supercomputer revised its title predictions for Manchester City and Liverpool. Manchester City, under new coach Enzo Maresca after Pep Guardiola's departure, came from behind to win against Bournemouth, raising their title chances from 18% to nearly 22%.

In contrast, Liverpool, now managed by Andoni Iraola after the sacking of Arne Slot, settled for a last-gasp draw, resulting in a drop in their title chances from just under 10% to 8%. The results created contrasting moods within both clubs.

Chelsea, who have yet to play their opening fixture against Fulham at Craven Cottage, benefitted from the defeats of Aston Villa and another unnamed team, moving up from a predicted sixth-place finish to fourth in the updated rankings. The revised standings illustrate how quickly early results can influence title predictions at the start of a new campaign.
