Nigeria's Gas Prices Surge Amid Supply Shortages

Gas prices in Nigeria have significantly increased due to persistent supply shortages and high depot prices, with cooking gas now selling for N1,500 to N1,700 per kilogram. Mr.

Edu Inyang, the president of the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM), has appealed to the federal government for urgent intervention to stabilize supply and prices. The current situation is causing hardship for millions of households, food vendors, and low-income earners, as many can no longer afford daily cooking gas.

Inyang attributed the price rise to logistical bottlenecks and escalating operational costs. He warned that if the crisis is not addressed, it could undermine Nigeria's clean energy goals, leading households to revert to firewood and charcoal, which poses serious public health and environmental risks.

NALPGAM has called for coordinated actions among stakeholders, including the NMDPRA and NNPC Ltd, to increase domestic supply and remove distribution bottlenecks.
