Growing Support for State Police in Nigeria's Senate

Support for the establishment of state police in Nigeria has gained momentum as various stakeholders, including governors, lawmakers, and political parties, endorse a proposed constitutional amendment. The National Assembly passed a bill aimed at decentralizing police forces to tackle increasing insecurity across the country.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia described the bill as a landmark reform capable of transforming Nigeria's security framework. The bill was passed by the Senate within 24 hours, reflecting the genuine intent of the National Assembly to address security issues.

In Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf convened a meeting to review the implications of the proposed amendment. The Gombe State House Assembly, led by Speaker Abubakar Luggerewo, is scrutinizing the bill, while Akwa Ibom's Speaker Udem Otong indicated that the assembly would expedite consideration once transmitted.

The Labour Party also endorsed the reform, urging state governors and lawmakers to support the initiative, which has been described as a major milestone in strengthening internal security.
