Supreme Court Upholds SDP Leadership Authority

The Supreme Court delivered a judgment affirming the authority of the Social Democratic Party's (SDP) National Working Committee (NWC), led by Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Gomb, regarding actions taken against former national chairman Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam.

Gomb addressed journalists in Abuja, stating that the apex court's decision nullified earlier court pronouncements concerning the party's leadership. The judgment, marked SC/CV/229/2026, emphasized that internal party disputes should be resolved according to the party's constitution.

Gomb dismissed claims circulating on social media about Gabam's reinstatement, asserting that no such order exists. He reiterated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must recognize the party's decisions and that Gabam's expulsion followed a proper disciplinary process.

Gomb expressed confidence that INEC would comply with the judgment, citing past compliance in similar cases. He also noted that the SDP's internal mechanisms for discipline should not be interfered with externally.
