INEC Recognizes Gombe as SDP Chairman After Court Ruling

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognized Professor Sadiq Abubakar Gombe as the chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after a Supreme Court ruling. This development follows a prolonged internal crisis within the SDP, which sparked legal battles and divisions in the party's leadership structure.

Gombe replaces Shehu Musa Gabam, whose position remains subject to legal contention. The Supreme Court's final decision led to the restoration of Gombe's name in INEC's records.

SDP members have welcomed INEC's action, describing it as a victory for justice and constitutional order in internal party democracy. The party aims to restore peace and strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Princ Adewol Adebayo, the SDP presidential candidate, commended INEC for adhering to the rule of law and judicial authority. The SDP has urged INEC to continue operating independently and fairly in its dealings with political parties.
