SWAN Voices Concern Over Sports Ministry's Return in Anambra

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has expressed shock regarding the return of sports to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Anambra State. This statement was issued on Sunday in response to a list of commission nominees sent to the House of Assembly by Governor Chukwuma Soludo for screening and confirmation.

SWAN, represented by Chairman Uch Ndeke and Secretary Chimezi Anaso, noted that the commission was established in 2018 to strengthen sports development, and its return to the ministry was unexpected at a time when sports had become a fully-fledged sector. They expressed confidence in the nominee Patrick Aghamba, who previously served in the commission, to drive the sector to greater heights.

SWAN urged Governor Soludo to provide adequate political support and funding to ensure Anambra State's prominence in national sports, emphasizing the importance of developing sports infrastructure and grassroots programs.
