SWAN Urges Kano to Honor 22 Deceased Athletes

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State chapter, has called on the state government to immortalize 22 athletes who tragically lost their lives in a road accident while returning from the Ogun Gatewai Games. This appeal was made by SWAN's secretary, Muhammad Nur Tijani, on Sunday, marking the anniversary of the incident.

SWAN suggested that the government should establish new sports facilities named after the deceased athletes to honor their legacy and nurture young talent. The association emphasized the profound loss felt within the sports community and the need to recognize the contributions of these athletes.

Additionally, SWAN urged the government to strengthen grassroots sports programs and improve facilities across the state, stressing the importance of discovering and nurturing emerging athletes. The organization also proposed organizing tournaments in memory of the deceased athletes to celebrate their contributions and ensure their impact on Kano's sports community is not forgotten.
