Nigeria's Tax Law Errors: Minister Oyedele Confirms Corrections

Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of State for Finance in Nigeria, admitted that the new tax reform law contains errors and assured that corrective measures are already in progress to address the identified issues. He made this announcement during the 2026 annual conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Oyedele explained that the inconsistencies emerged due to procedural lapses during the manual review process of the draft legislation. He urged Nigerians to await the outcome of a legislative probe into the alleged discrepancies.

Oyedele highlighted that the enforcement of the tax reform should not be arbitrary and stressed the need for transparency and fairness in the policy changes, which he noted should not send the wrong signals to investors. The new tax law took effect on January 1, 2026, following the signing of the tax bill on June 26, 2025.

Abdussamad Dasuki, a member of the House of Representatives from Sokoto State, had previously raised concerns about differing versions of the tax law circulating among lawmakers.
