Oyedele Commits to Effective Tax Reforms in Nigeria

Taiwo Oyedele was sworn in as the Minister of State for Finance on Monday, shortly after President Bola Tinubu's administration took office. During the ceremony held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja at approximately 2:30 PM, Oyedele committed to diligently executing Nigeria's tax reform policies.

He identified revenue mobilization, spending efficiency, debt management, and fiscal sustainability as immediate priorities. Oyedele expressed optimism about overcoming challenges and emphasized the need for proactive thinking to manage Nigeria's economic issues.

He acknowledged the obsolescence of the country's former tax policies and the necessity for a complete overhaul, which includes the introduction of a zero income tax for Nigerians earning below N800,000 annually and exemptions for small businesses with turnovers below N100 million. Oyedele, who replaced Dr. Dori Uzoka, is a 50-year-old tax expert and was previously the chair of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy.

His nomination was confirmed by the Senate after an extensive screening session.
