Nigeria to Implement New Tax Laws Despite Concerns - Taiwo Oyedele

The Nigerian government is moving forward with new tax laws scheduled to commence on January 1, 2026, despite objections from the House of Representatives. Taiwo Oyedele, who heads the presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reform, disclosed this information during a meeting with journalists alongside President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Oyedele highlighted that the reforms aim to alleviate the tax burden on Nigerians and boost economic growth. The tax reform bill, which spent nine months in the National Assembly, focuses on improving compliance, widening the tax base, and creating a fair and efficient tax system.
