Taiwo Oyedele Outlines Economic Priorities as New Finance Minister

Taiwo Oyedele has officially assumed the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, succeeding Wale Edun. In a statement released via his Facebook page on Friday, Oyedele expressed gratitude for Edun's contributions during a critical period for Nigeria's economy.

He emphasized the importance of consolidating gains and deepening ongoing reforms to ensure tangible benefits for Nigerians. Oyedele's strategic priorities include the design and execution of effective policies, with a commitment to work collaboratively with colleagues across government and the private sector.

He highlighted the need for fiscal policy strengthening, tax administration, and the implementation of major reforms, including subsidy removal and exchange rate adjustments. Oyedele is positioned as a central figure in Nigeria's tax system, particularly with the introduction of a 2024 tax reform bill by President Bola Tinubu, which aims to halt revenue collection from certain federal agencies, including the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Customs Service.
