Taraba Gov Takes Spiritual Action Over Prolonged Illness of Deputy: "It's Not a Political Matter"

Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas has turned to spiritual measures in response to the prolonged illness of Deputy Alhaji Aminu Alkali, emphasizing that it is not a political issue. In a statewide broadcast, Governor Kefas urged residents to pray for Alkali's speedy recovery, highlighting the absence of an active deputy governor in the state for several months.

Drawing on his military background, the governor stressed the importance of unity and service regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds. He cited Christian and Islamic scriptures to emphasize the need for morality and conscience in addition to legal processes.

Human rights lawyer Barrister Bilyaminu Maihanci echoed the importance of compassion in governance but cautioned against leaving the state without a functioning deputy, as it could undermine constitutional democracy. Alkali fell ill while on official duty, and the situation has raised concerns about the state's leadership.
