Eight Months On, Taraba Functions without a Deputy Governor

Taraba State has been functioning without a Deputy Governor for eight months since Alhaji Aminu Alkali went on medical leave in late December 2024. Initially hospitalized in Abuja and later in Egypt for a stroke, Alkali has been discharged but has not yet resumed his duties.

The nature of his illness was initially kept secret, but it was later revealed to be a stroke affecting his ability to speak and causing weakness on one side of his body. Speculation arose about his prolonged absence, with some suggesting his removal from office.

However, the State House Assembly has debunked reports of declaring him incapacitated and is confident that he will return to his duties. There are also discussions about a possible replacement based on constitutional provisions if Alkali is unable to resume his duties.
