Taraba Government Denies Worker Dismissals After Verification

The Taraba State Government has officially denied claims of sacking civil servants after a recent staff verification exercise. During a press briefing on October 26, 2026, Hamidu Ahm Kara, the head of the civil service, stated that no workers were dismissed as a result of the verification.

The exercise, conducted to authenticate the identities of workers, revealed that 3,100 individuals had document irregularities affecting their salaries. However, these findings do not equate to dismissal; instead, the government is working to resolve the issues and reintegrate affected workers into the civil service system.

Agbu Kefa, the state governor, and Kizito Bonzena, the speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, reaffirmed the administration's commitment to worker welfare. In contrast, the Taraba State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress urged the government to address the outcomes of the verification exercise and reinstate affected workers on the payroll, highlighting the economic challenges faced by workers.
