TCN Reports Collapse of Five Transmission Towers in Akwa Ibom

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced the collapse of five transmission towers located in the Ikot Abasi–Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom. This incident was discovered during a routine joint line patrol conducted by TCN linesmen on August 9, 2026.

Preliminary assessments indicated that critical structural bracing members were removed from Towers N9, N10, N11, N12, N13, and N15, leading to their collapse. Further inspections revealed that structural members from seven additional towers along the same transmission corridor had also been stolen, compromising their structural integrity and posing a risk of further collapse.

In response, TCN has reconfigured the network to prioritize electricity supply from Ibom Power and is mobilizing an urgent intervention to reconstruct the affected sections of the line. The company condemned the act of sabotage and reiterated its commitment to maintaining a reliable national grid while notifying security agencies to assist in investigations and prevent further vandalism.
