TCN Educates Communities on Power Infrastructure Protection

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) organized a stakeholder sensitisation programme on October 21 in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, focusing on the dangers of vandalism and encroachment on transmission rights-of-way. The event gathered representatives from host communities, traditional institutions, youth groups, security agencies, relevant government establishments, and the media to foster collaboration in protecting electricity infrastructure.
Engr Hassan Mustapha Aleiro, assistant general manager of TCN Birnin Kebbi Sub-Region, highlighted the importance of community participation in safeguarding electricity facilities. He noted that TCN has installed new transformers and is executing expansion and upgrade projects, but warned that these efforts could be undermined by ongoing vandalism and encroachment.
Aleiro urged community leaders to respect designated transmission corridors and report suspicious activities. Technical presentations addressed the operational implications of encroachment and vandalism, while the Health, Safety and Environment department informed participants about the dangers of living near high-voltage facilities.
