Team Nigeria Secures Three Tickets for 2027 Championships

Team Nigeria has successfully secured three tickets to the 2027 World Athletics Championship in Beijing, China, following impressive performances at the World Relay Championship held in Gaborone, Botswana. The Nigerian team showcased their talent with a historic run in the mixed 4x100m relay, where the quartet of Favour Ash, Obi Jennif, Chukwuka Chidera Ezeakor, and Maria Thompson Omokw clocked a blistering 40.24 seconds, setting a new African record and earning the country's first-ever ticket to the event.

Additionally, the mixed 4x400m team, anchored by Chidi Okezi and including Nathaniel Ezekiel, Taiwo Mari Kudoro, and Patience Okon Georg, delivered a season-best time of 3:12.88 to clinch qualification. Despite challenges, including a baton mishap in the women's 4x100m relay, the team rebounded with a time of 42.94 seconds.
