Nigeria Wrestling Federation Launches Camp for 2026 Championships

Nigerian wrestlers have begun a closed-door training camp ahead of the 2026 World Wrestling Championships, set to take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from October 24 to November 1. The Nigeria Wrestling Federation announced that the camp is being conducted at two locations in Bayelsa and Ondo states.

This initiative is designed to intensify training and improve the technical and tactical skills of the wrestlers. Akuh Purity, Chairman of the NWF Technical Committee and head coach of the Nigerian women’s wrestling team, praised the federation’s President, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for endorsing the program.

Purity emphasized that the closed-door format would enable athletes and coaches to concentrate fully on their preparations. He acknowledged the support for foreign-based Nigerian wrestlers, who have also participated in pre-tournament camps.

The 2026 World Wrestling Championships will feature top wrestlers globally, with Team Nigeria competing in various weight categories.
