Nigeria Wrestling Federation Launches Training Camp for 2026 Championships

Team Nigeria has begun closed-door camping in preparation for the World Wrestling Championships, set to take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from October 24 to November 1. The Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Akuh Purity, praised the federation’s President, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for approving the training program.

Purity, who is also the head coach of the Nigerian women’s wrestling team, emphasized that this initiative reflects the federation's commitment to adequately prepare athletes for international competition. The camp is being conducted at two venues in Bayelsa and Ondo States, designed to intensify training and enhance technical and tactical skills.

Purity noted that the closed-door setting would allow athletes and coaches to focus fully on their performance goals. He acknowledged the support for foreign-based Nigerian wrestlers, who have also benefited from pre-tournament preparations, underscoring Adeniyi's dedication to the welfare of all Nigerian wrestlers ahead of the championships.
