INEC Forensic Probe Clears Chairman of Viral Allegations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted a forensic investigation that cleared its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, from allegations stemming from a viral social media post.

The investigation, as stated by INEC's Chief Press Secretary Adedayo Oketola, revealed that Prof. Yakubu does not own or operate any social media accounts.

The commission's findings indicated that attempts to link the controversial post to Yakubu through email, phone number, or financial data were unsuccessful. The forensic analysis uncovered inconsistencies in the viral claims, which purportedly originated from a message allegedly made by the chairman.

Oketola emphasized that the presence of multiple fake accounts using Prof. Yakubu's identity was identified during the investigation.

INEC has urged Nigerians to refrain from sharing or engaging with disputed content and has forwarded its findings to relevant security agencies for further action.
