Amupitan Cleared in Forensic Probe Over Social Media Post

Joash Amupitan stated that a forensic investigation has exonerated him from allegations concerning a post on social media that purportedly supported a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The post, which drew widespread online reactions, was linked to a fraudulent account that impersonated him.

Adedayo Oketola, Amupitan's chief press secretary, issued a denial regarding the ownership of the account. A fact-check by Daily Trust confirmed the existence of a real account under the name "joashamupitan," created in September 2022, which was later renamed and locked.

The analysis revealed that the alleged post was impossible to trace back to Amupitan, as it was linked to a parodic account. The controversy intensified due to Amupitan's association with Godswill Akpabio, the INEC chairman, and the timing of the alleged post, which was claimed to have been made while Amupitan was a private citizen and not a public official.
