Tegbe Denies Three-Month Power Grid Fix Claim

Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, the Minister Designate for Power, issued a statement on Thursday clarifying that reports claiming he promised to repair Nigeria's power grid within three months are inaccurate. The statement, shared by spokesperson Adeola Adelabu, emphasized that Tegbe made no such commitment during his Senate screening on May 6, 2026.

He explained that the timeline for reforms in the power sector would depend on consultations and technical assessments. Tegbe assured lawmakers that immediate efforts to stabilize the national grid would commence within the first 100 days of his office, with broader reforms in the electricity sector planned for implementation over the year.

He committed to restoring credibility in the sector, addressing gas supply issues, and expanding electricity metering nationwide. Tegbe also pledged to modernize the electricity infrastructure, strengthen commercial operations, and ensure accountability across the power value chain while maintaining investor confidence.
