Tenants in Jalingo Decry Rising Rent Costs

Tenants in Jalingo, Taraba State, are lamenting the high cost of rent, which has significantly impacted their finances. A one-bedroom flat in the town costs between N150,000 and N200,000 per annum, while two-bedroom apartments range from N300,000 to N500,000, depending on the location.

Suleiman Muham, a junior staff member of a federal establishment, noted that he pays N300,000 for a two-bedroom flat in the ATC area, a stark contrast to the N170,000 he paid for a similar apartment in Bauchi State. Yahuza Lawal, a trader who relocated from Kano State, mentioned that he pays N120,000 for a single room in the Magami area.

The current economic hardship has made it difficult for families to manage these costs. Mr.

Joseph Gabriel, a federal civil servant, highlighted that the scarcity of government quarters has forced civil servants to seek private accommodations. The Taraba State Ministry of Works acknowledged that the lack of prioritization in constructing government quarters has contributed to the housing shortage in Jalingo.
