Mali Defence Minister Sadio Camara Killed in Attack

On Saturday, Mali's Defence Minister Sadio Camara was killed in a coordinated attack involving jihadist fighters linked to Al-Qaeda and Tuareg rebel groups. The assault occurred outside Camara's heavily fortified residence in Kati, located 15 kilometers northwest of the capital, Bamako.

The attack was characterized by a suicide car bomb that destroyed the minister's residence and resulted in the deaths of at least three family members. This incident is part of a broader escalation of violence across Mali, particularly in northern regions, where fighting has resumed in Kidal.

Camara has been a central figure in Mali's military government, which seized power following coups in 2020 and 2021. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Front for the Liberation of Azawad announced an agreement with Russian elements of the Africa Corps to ensure safe withdrawal amid ongoing clashes.
