Thailand Ends 60-Day Visa Exemption Starting 2026

Thailand is set to implement significant changes to its entry rules on September 15, 2026, ending the 60-day visa-free scheme that has been in effect since July 2024. The new regulations, formalized through four orders published in the Royal Gazette on August 31, 2026, will reduce the permitted stay for citizens of the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and others from 60 days to 30 days, strictly for tourism purposes.

A total of 60 countries will be eligible for this 30-day tourist visa exemption. Travellers may apply for a one-entry extension of up to 30 additional days at a Thai immigration office.

Those requiring more time can apply for a "TR" electronic tourist visa, allowing a 60-day stay, extendable by 30 days. Visa-free entry will now be limited to tourism, with other purposes requiring appropriate visas.

Additionally, land-border entries will be capped at two crossings per year for most nationalities, and the Visa on Arrival program will be significantly reduced.
