Nigerian Arrested in Thailand for Romance Scam

Chinedu Theophilus Ezik, a 24-year-old Nigerian national, was arrested by Thai police in the Bang Sri Muang area for allegedly operating a romance scam that targeted vulnerable women. Authorities became suspicious of Ezik when he appeared nervous while withdrawing money and searching his bag, leading to the discovery of six mobile phones, 10 ATM cards under different names, and 20,000 baht in cash.

Following this, police conducted a raid on his apartment, recovering an additional 40 mobile phones believed to be linked to the scam operation. Ezik is suspected of posing online as a wealthy Nigerian prince to deceive women into sending him money.

Police Colonel Phrut Jamroonsart indicated that Ezik is unlawfully in possession of people's electronic payment cards, and he remains in custody pending the conclusion of the investigation. This arrest comes amid increased scrutiny of Nigerian nationals in Thailand related to fraud and other offenses.
