Peter Obi Defects to NDC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and a previous presidential candidate for the Labour Party, has announced his departure from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as he prepares for the 2027 general elections. The presidency, through Special Adviser Onanuga, criticized Obi's move, labeling him a "political nomad" and accusing him of political inconsistency and opportunism.

Onanuga stated that Obi's decision to leave ADC was influenced by internal disputes and challenges within the party, as well as his desire to avoid tough political contests, particularly against notable figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi. Obi described the current political climate as hostile and discouraging, emphasizing that his decision was not influenced by personal issues with party leaders.
