SED Commission Focuses on South East Reconstruction Plans

The SED Commission is tasked with managing funds for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure in Nigeria's South East, which has suffered due to the effects of the civil war. During an event in Enugu, Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to poverty reduction and sustainable development, acknowledging that 133 million Nigerians are multidimensionally poor.

He emphasized the importance of political support for the SED Commission, which operates alongside other regional development commissions. Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State raised concerns about the region's recovery from the civil war, referencing the need for a comprehensive "Marshall Plan" to address security and infrastructure challenges.

The event also highlighted the absence of governors from the North West region, contrasting with the participation of five governors from the South East.
