El-Rufai Claims Plot to Arrest Brother Over Corruption

Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has alleged that there is a plan by security operatives to arrest his elder brother, Bashir El-Rufai, when he returns to Nigeria for their mother’s burial. This claim was made in a video where he expressed concerns that the authorities intend to use Bashir's arrest as leverage to negotiate with him.

Bashir El-Rufai missed their mother Hajiya Umma El-Rufai's burial, which took place on Sunday after her death in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday. The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) is currently involved in a case against Nasir El-Rufai, who faces allegations of corrupt practices and money laundering, with a court date set for March 24, 2026.

The case includes ten counts, and a bail request is pending. Despite these legal troubles, Nasir El-Rufai was granted release from ICPC custody to attend his mother’s burial.
