Witness Denies Handwriting in Owo Church Attack Trial

During the ongoing trial concerning the Owo church attack, witness Abdulhaleem Idri testified in the Federal High Court in Abuja, denying that a statement presented against him was in his handwriting. Idri stated he only wrote a three-page note and challenged the validity of the statement shown in court.

He was arrested on August 8, 2022, at his father's house in Omi Alafia, Ondo State, and claimed he was unaware of the details surrounding the charges against him. The attack on St.

Francis Catholic Church in Owo on June 5, 2022, resulted in 41 deaths and 140 injuries. Idri, who is connected to several suspects in the case, insisted he did not know the names of his class teacher and had not made efforts to ascertain the whereabouts of his school.

He described himself as a peaceful person, living harmoniously with both Christians and Muslims in his community.
