FNSB Calls for Job Opportunities for Blind Nigerians

The Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB) has expressed concern that thousands of visually impaired Nigerians still lack access to rehabilitation, education, assistive technology, and employment opportunities. Mrs Arit Tunde-Imoyo, Chairman of the society’s Executive Council, made these remarks during the 71st anniversary and Independence Dinner held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
Tunde-Imoyo highlighted that the organization was founded in 1955 by compassionate Nigerians and expatriates who believed that blindness should not lead to a life of dependence. She emphasized that independence for blind individuals includes the ability to navigate life, acquire skills, and contribute to society.
The society has made strides through its Vocational Training Centre and various programs but acknowledged that many barriers remain. Mr Oluwamayowa Oke, Executive Secretary of FNSB, stressed the importance of practical employment opportunities for blind persons and called for collaboration among employers, government, and the private sector to enhance inclusion.
