Thousands Urge Goodluck Jonathan to Contest 2027 Election

On Wednesday, thousands of youths rallied in Abuja, calling on former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for the presidency in the 2027 elections. The demonstration took place around Jonathan's residence near Taraba, close to Tanganyika Street, and disrupted early morning traffic.

Participants chanted slogans, danced, and displayed placards with messages such as "GEJ Nigeria Die Save GEJ" and "Nigerian Youth Break Medicine Wei Dem GEJ No Run Quench." The rally was led by Tom Ohiker, the national president of the Coalition of Goodluck Jonathan Supporters, who stated that the group had been conducting nationwide consultations for six months, urging Jonathan to return to power to rescue the country. Jonathan reportedly arrived at his residence around 1 PM, but sources close to him indicated he had no prior knowledge of the rally.

No official statement has been issued by Jonathan regarding the event, and the rally's spokesperson has not publicly responded to the appeals. The call for Jonathan's return is echoed by various groups within the Nigerian diaspora.
