Youths Rally for Jonathan's 2027 Presidential Bid

On Wednesday, a rally was held in Abuja where hundreds of youths urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest in the 2027 presidential elections. The demonstration, organized by a coalition led by Tom Ohiker, took place in the Maitama District and disrupted traffic as participants chanted slogans and displayed placards calling for Jonathan's return to active politics.

The placards included messages such as "GEJ Nigeria, Die to Save GEJ" and "Nigerian Youth Break Medicine." The group emphasized their commitment to pressuring Jonathan until he responds positively to their calls. Although Jonathan was reportedly not at his residence when the group arrived, he returned around 1 PM, leading to the dispersal of the rally.

This movement mirrors similar efforts from 2022 when various groups sought to garner support for Jonathan ahead of the 2023 general elections. Despite being a member of the opposition People's Democratic Party, the calls for Jonathan's return to politics have reignited discussions about his eligibility, given that he has already served a full term from 2010 to 2015.
